HEALTH & WELLNESS: CHANGING THOUGHT PATTERNS

WORDS & IMAGE: KIMORA BROCK

What do you think about? Have you ever thought about what your thoughts consist of? Do you choose what you think about?

Observing your thoughts is a crucial first step to true health and wellness, and it’s also a component of meditations. Most meditation consists of observing that you have a thought, but not engaging with it. In other words, notice the rabbit hole, but don’t go down the rabbit hole.

It seems like a simple process, but thoughts can really suck you in. Almost to the point where you feel like you can’t control them. The truth is that it is very beneficial to practice deciding what to think about and following through, as your thoughts are the very fabric of your reality.

What do I mean by that?

Research has proven that every time you think a thought, it is broadcasted to every cell in your body. You can think of your cells as the working machinery that carries out the orders of your thoughts. Your cells then respond chemically to the frequency that they received from your thought. For example, if you say you are stressed, or act stressed, you cells produce cortisol, the stress hormone.

By changing your thoughts, you can change your reality and your experiences in life. Even the curing of some physical ailments has been linked to positive mindsets as described in Deepak Chopra’s “Quantum Healing.”"

But of course, for lasting and more powerful change, it's not just about thinking the new thoughts. Say your thought aloud, write your thought down and finally put some action behind it!

Choose to be grateful. Choose to be happy. Choose to be successful (even if that means redefining what success is!)

I choose every day to live in the positive and never the negative. This practice has truly made me a much happier person, but I still have a lot of work to do. As Abe Lincoln once said, “Most people are as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

Love and light,

Kimora
